The costs:
-
The initial consultation with the first party seeking information about mediation or other alternatives which are available - $110 for approximately half an hour.
-
To issue an invitation $220 (inclusive of GST) which includes the issue of a S60I Certificate if applicable (Issued at my discretion under the terms of the Family Law Act & Regulations).
-
To conduct mediation:
-
In property matters - $1,100 per party - which includes preparation, arrangements for the mediation, intake sessions with the parties individually and three hours of mediation time.
-
In children's matter -$750 per party - which includes preparation, arrangements for the mediation, intake sessions with the parties individually and three hours of mediation time.
-
In the event mediation is agreed to continue then at $192.50 per party per hour.
This may seem expensive but consider the alternatives if you cannot reach an agreement about family issues. If you both engage a lawyer and do the traditional disclosure (exchange of relevant documents), add a few meetings and telephone calls with your respective lawyers and then attend a mediation your costs would be at least $5,000 each. Going to court would be even more. For example I have heard solicitors estimate their costs of between $25,000 and $50,000 for a trial of one day duration. This of course includes barristers fees.
